Forest Hill Embroidery pattern + knit bag making sewing Pattern

I am so excited to have my very first illustrated embroidery pattern launch today. It has been a great time working with illustrations and new freshly pattern ideas.  I love the different process of choosing colors, getting different tiny stitches in and make the line artworks come vivid and versatile, all together.

Illustrating is part of my daily exercise in an informal everyday journal, getting ideas in planners, sending greeting cards, and putting kindly notes in the mail. It is something that I have been doing since in art school days and loving it so much! I have always desire to make illustrations and create/design embroidery patterns, in someway.   So here I am working on Forest Hill Embroidery Pattern as my very first try of getting the illustrations into fine line artwork and used with embroidery flosses.

Forest Hill Embroidery pattern is truly inspired from a trip to Bear Mountain, New York last Autumn. The illustrations are captured of the leaves that collected through the mountain walk. The late summer and early Autumn colors in the wood is such generous and versatile.

Within the pattern also comes with a simple knit bag making pattern. As last year, I have made numbers of knit bags and have asked by many knitter friends how can they create something simple for their yarns, needles, and projects on the go. I though combining these two are a perfect way!

I love to share more of the the embroider pattern, I used loose count linen cloth for the embroidery. There are 7 different basic embrodiery stitches used in the embroidery pattern. The branch in the center, is created with Fishbone stitch and used three different shade of greens, finished up with stem stitch.

Both top left side two leaves used chain stitch to outline the shape then filled in with small chain stitches. Top with stem stitch for the stem and French knots.

The top coral leaf is outline with backstitch then filled in with satin stitch. Top with backstitch for the stem.

I give the bottom green leaf two different greens to create a little fun look; used the backstitch on the outline of the leaf then used satin stitch to fill in.

On page 5 of the PDF file pattern, you'll find a full page information on DMC embroidery color number suggestions, flosses number used, and stitch used on each line artwork. You can also create your own color scheme, to make one of your kind work!

For the knit bag making, it is a simple drawstring bag making. The bag is finished at 11.5"x11.5" that will allow to fit 3 skeins of yard, an unfinished project and few pairs of knitting needles. I was always surprised to see my knitter friends tuck their project in their purse or tote without a bag to held all the materials together . I always asked and worried if their yarn will get twist together or loose a stitch or two from the needles.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!!!

I hope this post found you happy and filled with new goals to accomplish for the new year! On the New Year day, I edited the blog header and wanted to bring some colors into this blog (when you arrive here with some good smiles).

Before rung the 2017 bell, I took a trip into the city. I explored a few new garment stores to me with a friend. It is going to be the day that I will always cherish and remember! My friend took me to explore a new fabric store to me, Grayline linen, such a beautiful store! The most impressive about the store is that it only has linens! I had wished to get some linen that reminded me so much of countryside of France, red strips, blue strips and simple design.  Maybe next trip when I am there!

As the new year approach I have been thinking what would be a new goal for me. Every year, I try to eat healthier, drink less coffee, eat less sugar products and maybe try to walk a block or two to get  some exercise.  That was all the good goals to achieve and I was able to accomplish most, but not all.

This year...

I would like to take a depth of learn about myself! Last few years have been quite a challenging in ways that have pushed and allowed me grew into a better person. But yet, still finding challenging because I seem haven't find that true self to be more promising, more aware, and looking into depth of appreciation in life and be a better listener and better mom.

It seems not as hard as it is, but it is!  Life is often far from perfect and beautiful and I often feel sentimental thinking about how the next step would be. I try keep moving forward to a better and positive direction as I face new challenges and take a new step forward. Setting up new goals; small and big. There still some of the days that little things affect me and let down a little, but I like to keep my chin up as possible these days.

It might be funny and someday that I'd laugh at myself that how it has taken me so long to see and realize that learning about myself is such a silly goal, but this year is a bigger goal for me and I like to stay on it.

Look back the year, I am humbled by the support of friends and family. I would like to find one small things and gratitude in the day to be thankful.  I also like to make more compliments to one and other. I don't think I have made my effort enough and I truely believe paying a sincere compliment feels even better than receiving one.  I am trying.

For this new year...

I sincerely hope you find your new goals to achieve, even taking time off to stitch or read! I found it is so important that I have moments or time to myself.  It helps to stretch out the day and perhaps relax some!

I  would like to knit one scarf or even learn to crochet. I've done both in the past, but didn't seem find myself into it. I have some nice yarns that purchased and given to me when still lived in ND (nearly 4 years ago) then still untouched and one missing needle during moves.  I though crochet seems simple, but it is not, I believed it is more counting, but they would be good skills to learn and review.  I dream of someday I'll be posting a pair of knitted wooly socks to you! wish me best luck!

This year,  I plan to experiment more linens in sewing and designs. I was humbled by the messages and feedbacks from the knit bags' receivers how much they have loved the soft and elegant of the bags. It would be a new journey for me. I have started experiment it and really enjoy and felt in love with the outcome!

Big news:
In a week, I'll be reveling a newest sewing pattern. It has been a wonderful time developing and putting the pattern together since last late Fall and there's a story behind this new sewing pattern.  I am sure you are not surprised that I used linen for the sewing and it turns out elegant and classic! I will be finalizing the blog writing next few days and following up the news!

I wish you a Happy New Year! You've enjoyed your time during this holiday season with family and friends. I would love to finish S' 12th birthday quilt  (quilt top and quilt back all ready to go) and start the 13th birthday quilt! It is a little crazy to think that... soon, I'll have a teen in the house...

{lining}

{Thank you} for the sweet comments on the { about hand-quilting post}. It has been fun to put up a informative post and to share with you. Thanks to S for taking majority of photos that have my hands in them. She did a great job for captured the movement! I'll for sure ask for her to take a photo of how I wear my thimble and update the post.

As you know that I have been into soft tone and pink lately! Maybe is the time of the year, I am ready to see colors other than brown. I have had an idea of making a set of kin-cha-ku aka {drawstring bag}. Alike the ones that I made for {S }and {myself}. The little lamb drawing done by S that near by my sewing space allowed me to start this new set of patchwork.

I have something soft, sweet, and woolie.. a bit of spring colors in mind! I used back-stitches for the lamb contour lines then added French Knots for the fur. The floss  I used was DMC 100% cotton and used either 2,4, and 6 flosses for the fur, French knots, so that make the lambs' looks more fun and the texture is really nice! The embroidery has added great texture on and makes it more unique in the way.
The inside is lined with 100% cotton without fusible interfacing.

For the bigger drawstring bag, I added message {be loving} above the lamb. For the small drawstring bag, the message is { be a star}. For sure, the designed was original set as a mother and daughter matchy bags. When S was much littler, I would try to find clothes that match, shoes that match together, still up today I still try to do so! make so! I love how her {kin-cha-ku} and {mine}are matchy. Her Mr. Rocky is always stuffed things and my Mr. Rocky is always stuffed with sewing related items. These two lambie girls for sure is sweet and soft. They both have added to the {shop}

Random: Thursday

 {hand-quilting}

{ be a star}

Hope you don't mind another {random} post! It has been weeks of work in progress here. I realized that I haven't had any completed handmade to share with you for a very long time. Today, I am home alone; just me, dark coffee, sewing machine, needles, threads, fabric piles, and of course the background sound from of {Kiki's delivery service}. I can't tell you how many times I have watched it and how many time I have watery eyes while watching Kiki finding her way in the new city. It makes me think of myself when I first came to Untied States as a teenager.... very { touched}..

Lately, I am craving for soft and sweet colors and sadly I don't have much sweet and soft fabrics in my stash.  These prints were brought back by my friend from her last visit to Japan. I love the soft tones of different pinks and of course the {french country style cross-stitch print}. I had to order some since the piece I received was a sample piece.

Snow piles are still here! The roads are clear and we are able to get our way home and in the city without any troubles. I didn't want to scare you, but our car got stuck in the road of heavy snow for many times in last few days. We had to dig the car out in the almost middle of the road. Thank goodness we are safe and sound. There are few more photograph to take for some new works that just finished and some new pieces are in action.  The little sheep/ lamb is really adorable! Finished the embroidery last night, but waiting to be hand-quilted. more to share on this handmade soon!
