FW 1930 QAL : #60 Mary Gray

Welcome to my stop of FW1930 qal. Today I will be sharing block # 60 Marcy Gray. This block is very simple and not much trouble when I was working on it. I used DS prints and machine paper-piecing for this project. I will share the process that I have been working for each block.

 - Print out 10 blocks at a time, so I could see all the blocks together then preselected all the fabrics ahead of the time for each block then change the prints arrangement as I go on. It helps me to look the prints all together.

- Use highlighters to distinguish the prints for the block that I work on. Use yellow stands lighter print, red, and blue suggest darker prints.  I also use purple if the block has four prints involved.

Measurements for each block sections:
For each block, I check on the same color highlighted section then look into what sections are the same measurement. I made a little shape diagram for myself then write down the measurement.

Measurements for rectangles are likely add .60" to the actual measurement. For example: the width of the rectangles measured 1.5" then add .60"for the seam allowance then will get 2.10" for the cut, repeat that for the length.   For the 45 degreed triangles, measure one side of the triangle then add 0.75" for the seam allowance.  It takes a little extra time, but it doesn't waste much fabric and help out the cutting easy.

I precut all my pieces and likely will have extra 0.15" seam allowance for later trimming

For Mary Gray, I started from the center two pieces.

After sewing the two pieces together, trim the template with fabric right away then flip the paper up draw a 1/4" seam allowance then repeat for other three sides {Repeat for other second center section piecing as well}.

For the other two triangle sections; I changed the right section numbering. As I preferred starting in the center piece for paper-pieceing.

Follow up the remaining numbers and continue sewing to finish up all the pieces for the section

Back of the section; trim three sides down then flip the paper up for 1/4" seam allowance line drawing { Repeat for the other triangle section as well}.

Place all the joined sections together. I like to stop here and check if any mistake made and have I  gotten all the piecing sewing correctly.

For Mary Gray block: join the center two pieces together first.

Match the two sides' points together then center point also needs to matched.

Remove all the papers before join sections together, since the 1/4" seam allowance has already marked on.

Sew the center piece and one triangle section together.

For longer or larger pieces join, I like to pin the ends of the points first then work my way to the middle point.

Add few more pins to insure the two sides seam are matching { Repeat for the other triangle section}.

Back for the block piece; press the seam allowance open

Here are my newest 16 blocks since last {post}.
