Scrappy Patchwork Zippered Pouch

 { zakka zipper}

 {back}

 { metal zipper gives very clean finish look}

 { lining}

 { roomy for all the sewing supplies}

{ scraps, scraps, scraps}

Can you tell that I have been playing scraps lately?  Sometimes, when we get home from school. S works on her school assignment or practices her music I would start sewing and randomly pick a small scrap piece then join with another pieces. The playtime is about 10-15 minutes or longer. Sometimes, the determination is see the bottom of the scrap bowl, { that means late dinner time}. Then these bigger joined pieces are likely to be set aside while I begin to think.... what to make?

The scrappy patchwork is quilted on 100% cotton batting. I have found the pouches that quilted on the cotton batting gives a very nice sturdy weight and texture. The {quilt as you go method} added extra firm weight to hold the patchwork and batting together.

The pouch's lining fabric is not fused to the fusible interfacing. The projects that I use fusible interfacing is when adding inner pockets to the bags. I found fusing the interfacing to the lining fabric helps to hold the inner pockets up and keeps in better condition after many times of use.

The zakka metal zipper are really cute! Downside is when using a metal zipper needs to be pretty precious on the width of the project. In the past, I have accidentally broke sewing machine needle due to too close to the zipper ends and the needle tip flew to my face. The metal zipper always give a nice and clean cut look. The little house is super cute! The finished dimension for the pouch is 6"x9". I added it to the {shop} sold

Indeed, I must commit that my obsession of scrappy patchwork hasn't stop! I try not to let it grow too fast and wild, so I can have other time to play the real stash and join lots fun quiltalong projects.

Random: Thursday

 {hand-quilting}

{ be a star}

Hope you don't mind another {random} post! It has been weeks of work in progress here. I realized that I haven't had any completed handmade to share with you for a very long time. Today, I am home alone; just me, dark coffee, sewing machine, needles, threads, fabric piles, and of course the background sound from of {Kiki's delivery service}. I can't tell you how many times I have watched it and how many time I have watery eyes while watching Kiki finding her way in the new city. It makes me think of myself when I first came to Untied States as a teenager.... very { touched}..

Lately, I am craving for soft and sweet colors and sadly I don't have much sweet and soft fabrics in my stash.  These prints were brought back by my friend from her last visit to Japan. I love the soft tones of different pinks and of course the {french country style cross-stitch print}. I had to order some since the piece I received was a sample piece.

Snow piles are still here! The roads are clear and we are able to get our way home and in the city without any troubles. I didn't want to scare you, but our car got stuck in the road of heavy snow for many times in last few days. We had to dig the car out in the almost middle of the road. Thank goodness we are safe and sound. There are few more photograph to take for some new works that just finished and some new pieces are in action.  The little sheep/ lamb is really adorable! Finished the embroidery last night, but waiting to be hand-quilted. more to share on this handmade soon!

Weekending

 { surprised package}

 { colors of spring}

 {bucket for library afternoon}

 {recycled egg container for boiled eggs}

 { another piece of hand-quilting}

{S' puppy plantation}

Weekending seems arriving so soon each week!  When we came home  from S' music class and there was a brown package sat by the door step. It is a package from Nishiki! She brought me some lovely fabrics from Japan and milk candy for S.  These polka dots prints are so cute and vibrate!  I love the varies of sizes on them! What to make now?   She is coming to visit us in April. We have promised each other to cook everyday and just enjoy the gathering.

We have been recycling our egg containers for a long time. I often cut it down in sections. It is great for boiled eggs and leave the eggs shall in the container. Another great use of it is for crafts and small beans. A few year ago, I used it to start tomatoes plants. Have you try any?

The {patchwork bucket} is great for library afternoon. I've always set my patchwork pieces and sewing kit in and take the bucket with me.  I have seen so many lovely patchwork buckets on {Flickr} lately! It is so lovely to see your patchwork buckets and the story that you shared.

S, finally gather a little puppy plantation here! These puppies are everywhere on the table we shared and of course, the fabric stashes are everywhere on the table. S had to dig them out and recount her puppies, so far none is missing~

Off our library afternoon and the {destash listings} are up and running; few more listing to add later. {thank. you} for snitch up from the {shop}!

How's your weekending?

update: inch mark shop

The destash listings are ready to view and few more listings will slowly added into the shop. Tomorrow I will take a clear photo of 8 Suzuko Koskei's prints in fat eight bundles.   {Suzuko Koseki fat eight bundles are ready}

Random: keep it simple

 { keep it simple}

 {single girl #2}

 {little patchwork and hand-quilting}

 { almost there, log cabin}

{destash and re-listing fabrics}

{keep it simple} is the motto I keep in mind lately! Extra simplify our lifestyle and extra simple with our must.do. everyday activities. Feel fulfilled each day and feel accomplished before bed time. I love how S often asked me, {mama, do you feel like accomplished many things today? I feel that I have fulfilled my day with all the busy stuff}. { I think her stuff is schooling, having fun with her friends at school, and coming home play musics and reading books}. I often reply to her, {what an accomplishment day you have had! You must feel so good about it}.

It feels great that March arrived today! The sun is bright and warm in N.D. this morning! S didn't need the second alarm to wake her up. She woke up and told me it feels so good waking up in the bright light morning, not in the dark.

After taken S to school morning, I have gone the weekly grocery shopping and put all the supplies away. It has been great not needed to rush in the store with other shoppers during the rush hours and I could actually enjoy being in the store. There are times that I miss go to traditional open market where you can pick and select the fish, veggies, fruit, and have conversations with the fisherman, veggie stand owner.. they often have great stories about their seasonal crops and give us sample for the seasonal fruits. There's always bonus of sort to take home and try.

Finally, I have made my mind about the single girl's backing fabric and it is on its way. I plan to hand-quilt the second Single Girl and embroider notes on it while I am waiting the backing fabric to come! Oh, I think I am turning into a plans driver more so lately. It helps me get tasks accomplish and more focus!

Log cabin quilt is almost done with hand-quilting and binding fabric is what I have been looking. I am thinking bold colors with prints or solid fabric. It would be nice to have this quilt finish and unload from the quilting bars. Toss in the washer and will make it even more cozy look.

I have a big stack of fabric will list in the {shop} later this weekend.  Hope you can come by and maybe find some prints that you are looking for. {Thank you for helping me out}! There will be a post here when listings are ready to view.

Time to return to school for another day of {busy stuff}.

Happy March 1st!
