{Happy Valentine's Day, dear friends}

February is one of our favorite month of the year. There are many of our closed friends' birthdays are in February and of course S' birthday as well. She is an almost valentine baby, but she decided to came early.  It is the time that I start thinking Spring is soon coming and maybe farewell to winter.

I have always enjoy February mornings! Every morning when I take S to school and would need to cross a bridge in order to get to south side of the town. The height of the bridge is perfect for seeing the sun rises and sun sets in horizon line. The sun light is warm and blurry! When the days are so cold we can see some winter rainbow. It really awake the day for me and we will miss that bridge when we move!

We have slowly going through {things} here. There are few boxes that are never opened since we moved to N.D. We went through the boxes and found so many S' preschool and kindergarten works. It is very hard to give up S' first writing book, first school 100 days hat and the birthday hat that her preschool teacher made her.  I think I am not just a fabric hoarder keeper, but everything keeper!

{Pixelated Heart Mini Quilt} just finished this morning! I had hard time looking for binding fabric then later on I went with {Bella by Lotta Jansdotter} and it is a great fabric line! I am glad I made my mind and bought the fat quarter bundle last year. For the quilting pattern, I went with scallop pattern instead of straight lines. You can simply make the scallop pattern by using cups that's available from your home then trace the round shape on stock paper or even paper box that you can find. Cut the shapes out then trace the shape with B-gone pen on the quilt.  For the backing, I used the B-gone pen and wrote {xoxo} then embroidered the hand-writing.

Random: A bit of snow in Monday

{ the heart}

 {the scraps}

 {the graphic paper got soak in the water}

Snow keeps coming, but in a very gentle way. No school for S today, but I start two hours later today. She is all packed with her favorite books, treats, and games. She is coming with me to school and for sure will try to peek in the classroom where I will be teaching this afternoon.

While we got snow in a little bit this weekend, I have the time to finish up this mini pixelated heart. It is inspired by {Jolene aka Blue Elephant Stitches}. Jolene show a visual construction on the photo and that really help out the piecing direction.

{Svetlana aka s.o.t.a.k handmade} made a so sweet {pixelated heart pillow}. I just love her random red prints and the low volume background.  The backing fabric is so lovely!

I haven't decided on the backing fabric and having hesitations on how to finish this mini heart piecing. It might be another mini quilt as far as I have in mind. Also adding little embroidery might be lovely.  All the pieces are cut in 1.5"x1.5" and finished at 1"x1" and this is a great scrap project!

Weekending

Happy Lunar/Chinese New Year and Welcome to the first {Weekending link up}

S and I haven't been celebrating the New Year since we moved to N.D. We have phoned our family back in Taiwan last night and they were all busy. Mom was preparing food and getting ready for worship our ancestor in our family shrine, but she was able to talk to S and let S greeted her in many New Year blessings.

Our weekending in back in quite mode. S and I made the most delicious { Salted Caramel brownie} this morning. Next time, I would like to add some pecans to the batter.  We found stalks of Brussels sprouts in our local grocery stores. S was amazed! She had no idea how Brussels sprouts grow. We bough a stalk home and she had great time to take them down from the stalk. We don't know if we can eat the stalk. Does anyone of you try?

Each Year, I bough  a big bag of Clementines and let them sit in the kitchen throughout the Lunar/ Chinese new year time. Clementines in Chinese pronunciation is referring {good luck}.  As I remember that mom would let them sat throughout the New Year time then we get to eat them later. I hope to keep some of these tradition in our little family.

Our weekending has been quite! S needs her personal time to catch up some new books that she got from book fair and I would like to show and tell the scraps that I have been working on soon.. :)

It has been another lovely weekending at { 1/4" mark house}!

How's your weekending?

mini kin-cha-ku

 {front}

 { back}

 { in my hand}

 { hand-quilting}

 { many sweet prints}

 {a mini project is in action}

Somehow the small projects make my heart sing. It is more manageable than the larger projects.  It helps me feel a little extra accomplish for the week. I am in the mind of mini kin-cha-ku aka {drawstring bag} lately. I would like to make a ton dozen of mini version of them. This time it turns out super mini and I love the size of that my one hand can handle it!

Hand-quilting always adds nice texture on the small projects. I wish all my quilts can be quilted by hands instead. As  you see,  many spring colors around here lately!  S and I talked about greens and blues lately a lot! And I expended into the color theory with her by asking her what greens and blues that she sees in the surrounding and how each of these colors make her feel.  It is really fun to hear what she thinks and compared to what I think. She told me, green is energy and that's why she loves greens so much now... oh dear... i replied!

Random: Scraps & stitches

{Thank you. thank you. thank you} all the fabulous birthday wishes have been received and S continues the birthday excitement in here. Balloons are separated in different space here. The one above is the reading balloon and there is a sleeping balloon, piano balloon...

These scraps didn't happen in one night. The patchwork were done mostly while waiting S gone to bed, so I could work on her {birthday quilt}. I was sewing {something}. Most of scraps are from the last two single girl quilts and the previous projects.  It is nice to see them being used and patch together.

Another small hand-quilting project just started last night. I have always enjoy hand-quilting on small projects. It really adds nice texture to it.  It is quiet here, since I decided to stay home instead going back to school studio to work.

The days have been longer and we both like it so much more. We had two days straight snow days  here { few hours in the mornings and afternoons} and the ground added new layers of coat on; it is pretty here!

Now, one quilt down and five more to go...
