around this place

After days and hours sanding the dresser is starting looking simple and nice! As you can see I fixed up the  broken top handles with simple wood strips. I wish I have gone to the store and get the same wood!

I decided to go with natural wood color. Today I stained the second coat on and they are look so much nicer each time.  This is a such great found!! Lots drawers for fabrics and other supplies.  Without any woodworking knowledge it is rough to start a simple project like this! Lots supplies to get and lots questions about how and why. I shall take some better photos when I transfer this dresser home next week or so.

Finally I work on more patchwork today! Sorry if you are waiting for {Take four}. I need few more patchwork pieces to photograph {Take four} post. The birthday quilt top is completed and I have ordered the backing fabric for it. Once I have it quilted and bound I will show you again. I think you are probably tired of seeing lots work in process posts and images.  I will take a few days off here, however, I will be back to post the {sew.mama. sew } giveaway winner in a short post.

w.i.p. : quilt for J

Yesterday I was gone all day to the wood shop! I found an old/vintage style dresser in the yard two weeks ago { city spring cleaning}. Few things need to be repair and I sand the glossy paint off, which result sore arms this morning. The dresser is in rough wood shape now. I can't decided if I should paint it over with color or I should stay with original wood quality.

I decided the hourglass pattern for this quilt. Keeps the quilt simple!! Late night sewing means messy and mistakes! The pin board still is my most happy found lately! A place to pin up with projects and a place to remind myself what projects need to continually working.

The sun is shinning in and the tea kettle is whistling... I should depart from here and start the day...

The bread pudding turned out so delicious! Nothing left, but crumbs! I will make it again if I have some older bread! It is always fun and lovely to spend time with closed friends and share a good meal together! We over ate and over laugh.  It was cold and windy yesterday afternoon, but we sat outside and just enjoy the good time together!

Another semester end of violin recital for Stella! I made her a root beer float before she went to the recital! I told her, root beer float will make her fearless! She did great today! She was confident on the stage! No shacking legs this time, according to her! Stella and my sister went pick out the pair of golden shoes from Taiwan last summer! She has been wearing the same shoes for her last few music recitals! It has a special magic to her, since it is from her dearest aunt and she loves her very much! ! I am always a proud mama sat in the audience seat!  I used to have tears around my eyes.. I still do when she plays, but I tried to be sweet! :)

Today has been another productive day for me to work on the quilt! Lots pressing and cutting! The quilt is coming along! I can't wait to lay them on the floor and decide the final pattern look. zig-zag? hourglass?

Random: Weekending

I woke up with raining storm and the temperature finally cool off! Everything looks so clean after the rain shower. I always love the raining days, but also do complain about it when I need photograph. The birthday quilt for my friend is coming quick and lovely!!! I almost think I need to keep it or maybe make one for myself. I plan on print out all the work in process images/ photos and make a memory book for my friend to keep. I think it would be another great birthday present for her. Stella could do the illustration and writing parts. This might be a great project for her in the summer!

Stella took the camera yesterday. This image show on  my computer this morning when I was uploading images. She wrote this book at the beginning of her school year  and it is about the trip that we took last summer back to Taiwan. It is such a nice book and she agreed I could photocopy each page and sent it to my family back home.

My sweet sweet fabric swap package arrived in my mail box yesterday! I { LOVE} these vintage fabric! Thank you, Kerry!! You are so sweet!!  I plan to use some of these for { Kerry's house}. I have three more little housing to make before I turn them into a mini quilt!

Lots leftover bread! I am attempting a new baking today! It is bread pudding! I never try one, but I am attempted after reading the ingredients.

The herb plants are growing.. growing .. growing.. I can't wait for the basil to be tall and big. I love put basil on homemade pizza!  I also love chives for omelets and I love parsley for simple salad!

Stella spotted more strawberry flowers are blooming this morning.  She is exciting that she will be able to pick her own strawberries soon. She was worried this morning when much raindrops came...After the rain stopped she went outside and check if the flowers are still there. She came in and shared with me that there are five pretty white flowers.

The ironing board is done! It took me 30 minutes to make one. I wrote a tutorial way back if you are interested.  The fabric is Amy Butler's August Field. I think it might be discontinued!  I got it long time ago and it is in canvas weight, so it is perfect for ironing board cover and handbags.  Today I am preparing 10 people's food! Lots cooking will be happening soon! I will respond your comment after this post!  :)

Bloggers’ Quilt Festival :: Spring 2012

Hello! Amy at Amy's Creative Side is hosing another Blogger's Quilt Festival .  This is my second time join the Festival.  I love quilting and many crafty things!  I have a daughter who is 8! When she was 3,  I started quilting!  I don't buy her any birthday gifts instead I make a quilt a year for her! Sometimes, I am a little behind, but always lots thoughts when I make the quilt for her.

Before she turns 8, I asked what she had in mind for her quilt? She answered {rainbow}. I purchased the 1001 peeps bundle from Lizzy House in fat eighths for the entire quilt! The colors are just right for the quilt that I had in mind! The little houses are made with simple nine-patch blocks. I wrote up a little tutorial here if you are interest.

She is very happy with this quilt when it was washed and covered on her bed when she got home from school!! I never show her the whole quilt before it done.  She is pretty good at waiting her quilts to be done!

I plan on making 25 quilts for her then I will and hope I will start making quilts for my grandchildren. I love how quilts passing within families and lots stories that is being told and retell! I have lots stories about each quilt that I made for her! I love to tell you that every year she looks forward her birthday quilt.

Like every mother and daughter, we love each other dearly, but we also have conflicts together! It is growing experience for both of us! Each quilt is the record of the life that pass by us, but being capture within! This year, we talked much about our dream farm house and this is where the little house block inspiration came from!
